With the Spanish second division continuing throughout the World Cup, in the 10 matches that were played over the weekend, 22 goals were scored.

Alaves remain at the top of the table despite drawing 0-0 at Eibar. Burgos CF moved within just a point of Alaves after a well fought out 0-1 win at Real Racing Club de Santander.

Although there was only one goal in the match it was full of drama. Racing’s, Sekou Gassama missed a penalty just before half time. Burgos CF took the lead in the 67th minute through Curro Sánchez, which sent the 1,500 travelling fans wild. Racing defender Inigo Sainz-Maza was shown a red card after a VAR check in the 90th minute, which ensured all three points were going back with Burgos CF.

Now to the bottom of the table. Malaga remain bottom after they drew 1-1 at Real Zaragoza. Javier Jimenez was shown a straight red card in the 14th minute, so things were only going to be tough from then on for Los Abicelestes. This stretched Malaga’s winless league run to five matches.

Second from bottom UD Ibiza fell to defeat at Villarreal B. The only goal of the game came from Diego Collado, meaning they move up to 10th position in the table.

Granada made a statement to the rest of the league with a 4-0 victory over Albacete. Albacete were shown two red cards during the 90 and this only made it easier for Granada, who had 73% possession, controlling the match. There was another 4-0 score line over the weekend. Andorra beat CD Lugo; all of their goals came in the second half with Mustapha Bundu and Sinan Bakis grabbing a brace each.

Levante who are fourth in the table and Los Palmas who are third, played out a 1-1 draw. Levante took the lead through a Roberto Soldado penalty in the 52nd minute. And it was looking like Levante were going to be winning their sixth game in seven matches, but Marc Cardona Rovira rescued a point for Las Palmas in the 95th minute. Los Palmas remain just a point ahead of Levante.

CD Tenerife defeated SD Huesca 2-0, with their two goals coming from Spaniards, Waldo Rubio and Alberto Teto.

SD Ponferradina drew 1-1 with Real Oviedo. The two teams sit in the two places just above the relegation zone. With CD Lugo occupying the last relegation spot, they each moved a point further away from the drop, bringing their points tally up to 17.

The final game from this weekend’s roundup was a four-goal thriller played out between Sporting Gijón and CD Leganés. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, which kept the one-point gap between the two sides with Sporting sitting in 11th on 22 points and Leganés in 13th on 21 points.

CD Mirandés are set to play FC Cartagena on Monday night. Mirandés are hoping to pick up much needed points, as they sit in the relegation zone on 13 points and Cartagena are at the other end of the table. They’ll be hoping to break into the play-off places, as they are level on points with Granada who are above them.

The next round of fixtures are set to commence on November 25th with Huesca taking on Sporting Gijón.
